things you need:

  • 2 cups poppy seeds
  • 1/2 kg barley
  • 2cups milk
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup walnuts—diced
  • 1/2cup sultanas
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup almonds—diced
  • 1TBS orange zest—fried
  • 1 vanilla extract

Here’s how:

  1. Rinse poppy seeds, pour in the boiling milk and keep boiling for 30min. Leave to cool down
  2. Drain the poppy seeds and blend 3 times

 Alternatively, miss those 2 steps and use ready made poppy seeds available in the shops

  1. Boil 2l of water and add barley. Cook until its soft, drain and cool down
  2. Rinse the sultanas in hot water and drain
  3. Boil 100 ml of water, add sugar to make syrup
  4. Dissolve honey
  5. Mix poppy seeds, barley honey and syrup adding the sultanas, walnuts, almonds and orange zest
  6. Add vanilla extract and leave to cool
